FAQ

Questions people ask before getting in touch

If yours isn't answered here, ask it on the discovery call.

Individual therapy

What actually happens in a hypnotherapy session?
We talk first, then move into a relaxed, focused state where the work happens. You stay aware throughout, you can speak, and you can stop whenever you want.
I've had talk therapy before and it didn't hold. Why would this differ?
Talk therapy works at the level of understanding. This work goes to where the pattern was learned, which is why the change tends to hold differently.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what we're working with. We review progress as we go rather than committing you to a fixed package up front.
Are sessions online or in person?
Both are available. Online sessions work well for this kind of work provided you have a private, undisturbed space.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, within the standard professional limits, which are explained before we begin.

HypnoBirthing

I've never heard of HypnoBirthing. Is it hypnosis?
It uses self-hypnosis, which here means deep, focused relaxation you direct yourself. You are awake, aware and in control the whole time.
When should I start?
Between 20 and 35 weeks is ideal, so you have time to practise. After 35 weeks a condensed version is available.
Does my partner attend?
Yes. Birth partners have an active, rehearsed role in the programme and are encouraged to attend throughout.
My pregnancy is higher complexity. Can I still do this?
Yes. Planned caesarean, VBAC, hypertension, gestational diabetes and twin pregnancies are all supported.
Does HypnoBirthing promise a particular kind of birth?
No. It prepares you to stay calm, informed and involved in decisions, whatever the day brings. It does not replace the advice of your medical team.

Not sure which is the right starting point?

The free discovery call is the single way in for both the therapy practice and the HypnoBirthing programme. We talk, you ask questions, and you decide afterwards.
